Abstract:
The residual stress in the butt welds joints & aluminium AA 2014 plates has assessed by performing thermal mechanical finite element analysis and by utilizing the commercial software package ABAQUS. In the paper, an attempt is made to present an efficient FE technique which uses equivalent loads to precisely predict welding deformation and residual stress in butt joints. We are considering the radial heat flux distribution on the top surface of weldment and convective heat losses are measured through the boundary condition for the onward heat flux. To compute the highest temperatures in AA 2014 plates, surface heat source models are used with Gaussian distribution to perform FE transient thermal analysis. By using the finite element method, we can simulate the welding process. The main aim of the project to study the effects of varying the welding process parameter on the thermo mechanical responses. A relation between welding parameters and the responses of single pass butts welding is evaluated through the finite element analysis. The effect is varying heat input, welding speed in the thermo mechanical responses of the welding after cooling down to room temperature is also under studied.
