Abstract:
Air pre-heaters are used to preheat the combustion air by utilizing the waste heat of the flue gas. Air pre heater is located in the last stage of the boiler, where they can receive hot flue gas from the economizer. The decrease in the performance of an air pre heater in the modern power plants is one of the major perspective for the higher unit heat rate and also responsible for deterioration in boiler efficiency. The main problem of air pre heater is the leakage of air to the flue gas due to improper sealing and decrement in effectiveness due to aging of heating elements. Due to this the load on auxiliaries increases. In a typical 210MW power station, approximately 9% of its generation is consumed by its auxiliaries (ID, FD, PF fans, BFP). Auxiliaries are the essential things with secondary importance required for steam generation other than boiler, generator, turbine, and condenser. In the proposed method, power consumption of these auxiliaries has been reduced to considerable amount by introducing double sealing and also effectiveness of the same is enhanced by additional heating elements i.e. by increasing the surface area.
