Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to identify the differences and overlaps in the concepts of supply chain management and demand chain management to ascertain their separate identity. This work is based on the understanding developed through review of literature. The study reveals that the concepts of supply chain management have wide acceptance in practice and have gradually adopted many features of the demand chain management, thus making a shift towards the concepts of demand chain management. The gaps in both the concepts have reduced and overlaps increased to the extent that basic elements of the chain are same in both the cases, the only difference is that of an emphasis or arising out of difference in emphasis. The study is useful for industries and academicians to help them realize the benefits of the concepts of demand chain management.
